If your business has 2 to 20 people, pay for the team tier of whichever assistant your staff will open every day: ChatGPT Business, Claude Team, or a Google Workspace plan with Gemini built in. On 2026-10-20 a standard seat cost between $14 and $25 USD a month ($7 for Google's entry plan, with less Gemini in it), and all three vendors say they don't train on your work by default. On the personal plans, that's a setting each person has to manage.
What each plan costs, checked 2026-10-20#
The main personal plans sit near $20 a month, and a team seat costs less, the same, or a few dollars more. ChatGPT Go and Google AI Plus are cheaper personal tiers with less in them. These are the US-dollar prices each vendor's own page showed to a US visitor on 2026-10-20. Claude's page says its prices don't include tax, and Google's Workspace page said the same when viewed from Canada.
| | Personal paid plan | Team plan, per seat per month | Seats | Trains on your data? | |---|---|---|---|---| | ChatGPT | Plus: $20 a month, billed monthly | Business standard seat: $20 billed annually, $25 billed monthly. Premium seat: $100 annually, $125 monthly | 2 at minimum, 200 at most | Plus: used for training unless you opt out. Business: not by default | | Claude | Pro: $20 billed monthly, or $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front) | Team standard seat: $20 billed annually, $25 billed monthly. Premium seat: $100 annually, $125 monthly | Teams of 2 to 150 | Pro: opt-out. Team: none by default | | Gemini | Google AI Pro: $19.99 a month | Workspace Business Standard: $14 on the annual plan, $16.80 on the flexible plan. Business Starter: $7 or $8.40 | No minimum stated, 300 users at most | AI Pro: with Keep Activity on, chats are used to train Google's models and some are read by human reviewers. With it off, future chats aren't used for training unless you send feedback, though Google still uses human reviewers for safety. Workspace: not used for training outside your domain without permission |

From a Canadian connection, ChatGPT and Google showed Canadian dollars instead: ChatGPT Go at CA$11, Plus at CA$25, a Business standard seat at CA$27 billed annually or CA$34 monthly, Google AI Plus at CA$6.99, Google AI Pro at CA$26.99, and Workspace Business Standard at CA$18.40 on the annual plan or CA$22 on the flexible one. Google's payment plan comparison lists Business Starter at C$9.20 annual and C$11.00 flexible. Claude's page showed the same dollar figures from both countries, and labels its Enterprise price "US$".
Workspace advertises up to 50% off the first three months, and a footnote adds an introductory price for new customers that covers the first 20 users for 12 months. The prices here are Google's standard rates, without either. Claude also sells Max, a heavier personal tier starting at $100 a month, for one person who works in it all day, and ChatGPT sells a heavier Pro tier.
What the team tier buys you#
The team tier is where the training default flips, and it also gets you one bill and one admin. For an owner, those are the three things worth paying the difference for.
ChatGPT Business. OpenAI's business data page says "We don't train our models on your organization's data by default," covering Business, Enterprise and its API (OpenAI, checked 2026-10-20), and lists SAML SSO among the Business features. OpenAI's help centre describes centralized billing, admin controls for users, roles and access, and usage visibility and spend controls (Business overview, checked 2026-10-21). If you remember it as ChatGPT Team, it's the same plan: OpenAI renamed it on August 29, 2025. On Plus, the pricing page marks training as opt-out, so it's a setting each person has to find.
Claude Team. The Team card says "No model training on your content by default" and lists central billing and administration, SSO, admin controls for connectors, and search across your organization (Claude pricing, checked 2026-10-20). Anthropic's privacy center says the same about its commercial products, unless someone sends feedback with the thumbs buttons or opts in, in which case that data may be used (Anthropic Privacy Center, checked 2026-10-20). An owner on the Team plan can switch that feedback button off for everyone. On Pro, training is a setting each person controls (consumer article).
Gemini in Google Workspace. If you already pay for Workspace, you may already have Gemini. Business Starter includes it in Gmail and a Gemini chat; Business Standard adds it to Docs, Meet and more, with expanded access in the Gemini app. Google's Workspace privacy hub says your content "is not human reviewed or otherwise used for Generative AI model training outside your domain without permission," and on supported editions admins can switch Gemini features on or off per app (Workspace Privacy Hub, checked 2026-10-20). The personal Gemini app works differently: with Keep Activity on, Google uses your activity to improve its services, "including training generative AI models," with help from human reviewers, and asks you not to enter confidential information (Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, checked 2026-10-21).
If your team isn't on Workspace, Google also sells Gemini Enterprise, Business edition, from $21 USD a seat a month for up to 300 seats, and it connects to Microsoft 365 as well as Google's own apps (Google AI plans, checked 2026-10-20).
A seat isn't unlimited#
ChatGPT and Claude both cap usage per seat, and the seat price doesn't tell you where the cap is. Claude's paid plans have "a session limit that resets every five hours, and weekly limits that reset once every week," and how far a session goes depends on "the length and complexity of your conversations, the features you use, which Claude model you're chatting with, and the effort level you've selected" (Claude Help Center, checked 2026-10-21). A Team standard seat gets more than Pro, and a premium seat gets 5x more usage than a standard one (Claude pricing). OpenAI says a premium Business seat "includes 5x more usage than Standard seats, no 5-hour usage limit" (Business overview, checked 2026-10-21; announcement).
Both let you mix seat types on one plan. That matters more than the headline price: one premium seat for the person who lives in it, standard seats for everyone else.
How to choose#
These five are our recommendations. We haven't tested the three side by side for answer quality, and the right one depends on your work.
- Start where your files already live. If your email and documents are in Google Workspace, check which edition you're on before buying anything else. Gemini may already be in the bill you pay. By our arithmetic from Google's listed prices, moving from Starter to Standard adds $7 a seat a month on the annual plan.
- Start with the person who'll use it most. Give them the seat first and watch what they use it for over two weeks. If that work touches client or customer data, start on the team tier. For ChatGPT and Claude that means two seats at minimum, so the second one is yours.
- Pay for one assistant. Two assistants means two bills and two sets of habits to keep up. Choose by where the work happens: inside Gmail and Docs, Gemini; in a separate assistant window, ChatGPT Business or Claude Team. Between those two, let the heaviest user try both on a real task for a week and go with the one they keep opening.
- Pay monthly until it sticks. By our arithmetic from the listed prices, annual billing saves $5 a standard seat a month on both ChatGPT and Claude, and it commits you for a year. Switch once the seats are being used.
- Check the accounts your staff already have. Anyone using a personal plan for work is on the opt-out side of the table. Move them to the team plan or have them turn training off today.
None of this is legal advice. Each training statement here is the vendor's own published policy, and your contract with the vendor is what binds it.
What goes stale first#
The prices. Every price here was read from the vendor's own pages on 2026-10-20 and 2026-10-21, US figures from a US connection and Canadian figures from a Canadian one, and Anthropic's page says its prices and plans can change at its discretion. Seat limits (2 to 200, 2 to 150, 300) and the training defaults change less often, but they're worth a second look before you sign an annual plan.
